Noelle Quinn Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

Nov. 29, 2004

Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA sophomore guard Noelle Quinn has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 22-28, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Quinn, a Los Angeles native, averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists in two home games as the Bruins upset No. 4/4 Texas, 63-60, and defeated Clemson, 83-52. On the week, she shot 43.5 percent from the field (20-of-46) and 33.3 percent from 3-point range (2-of-6).

The win over the Longhorns came just three days after Texas' 74-59 Thanksgiving Day upset of No. 1 Tennessee. It also marked the Bruins' first win over a top-10 opponent since defeating then-No. 8 North Carolina in the 1999 season opener.

In the victory over Texas on Nov. 28, Quinn scored a game-high 27 points -- including UCLA's last seven of the game -- and added 11 rebounds for her first double-double on the season. She played all 40 minutes without a turnover and notched two assists, two steals and a block. With six seconds remaining, Quinn grabbed a rebound off a missed free throw, was fouled and nailed both free throws in the one-and-one to give the Bruins a three-point lead with five seconds left.

In the win over Clemson on Nov. 24, Quinn scored a game-high 23 points and added seven steals, four rebounds and three assists.

The Bruins (3-1 overall, 0-0 Pac-10) have not allowed more than 65 points in a game this season and are limiting their opponents to 56.2 points per game. UCLA travels to nearby Pepperdine for a Thursday night contest, before returning home for a chance at another ranked team. The Bruins host No. 15/13 Purdue Sunday at noon PT. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net.

The Player of the Week honor is the third for Quinn, the 2003-04 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. It is the 29th all-time selection for UCLA.
