Los Angeles - UCLA junior RHP Hector Ambriz and freshman outfielder Blair Dunlap were named to the 2006 Malibu All-Region Team. Ambriz and Dunlap were two of 11 players selected for their outstanding performances in the Malibu Regional as picked by Regional officials and members of the media.
Ambriz, from Placentia, Calif., was honored for leading UCLA to a first-round win over UC Irvine. Ambriz earned his second complete-game win of the year, allowing two run (both unearned) on just four hits, with five strikeouts and four walks. Ambriz finished the game strong, retiring the final 13-of-14 Anteaters he faced to close out a tough win for UCLA.
Ambriz finished the year with an 8-7 record, a 3.65 ERA, two complete-game wins, two saves, and 97 strikeouts in 113.1 innings pitched.
Dunlap, from Mission Viejo, Calif., earned Malibu All-Region honors for his clutch hitting at the plate. In three Malibu Regional games, Dunlap hit .364 (4-11) with two doubles, a RBI, and a run scored. Against UC Irvine on Friday, Dunlap went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and hit 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI against Missouri on Sunday.
On the season, Dunlap batted .300 (30-100) with two home runs, nine RBI, and 21 runs scored.
UCLA finished third in the Malibu Regional and finished the season with a 33-25 overall record.
