The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team travels to the Spartan Invitational, Mar. 2 and 3, hosted by San Jose State University at the Corral de Tierra Country Club in Salinas.
Last year at this event, the Bruins set a school record by posting a five-under par score of 283 in the first round. The record has since been broken twice, but UCLA looks for continued success at the golf course.
"We played well there last year," said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. "We shot one of our lowest rounds, and we feel good about playing there this year. We're the best team in the field."
Jun enjoyed her best outing of the season at the Wildcat Invitational last week. She finished in a tie for fifth place with scores of 71-70-76--217. Shearer also enjoyed one of her best career finishes, placing in a tie for eighth place with scores of 73-74-72--219. Mayorkas, the nation's fourth-ranked player, also tied for eighth, and Mathews, who is ranked 12th, tied for 13th at 221. Dwyer tied for 28th at 228.
"This is a solid group," Forsyth continued. "Four of the five players finished in the Top 15 at our last event."
The Bruins won the Regional Challenge two weeks ago and Mayorkas won medalist honors.
