Degteva 13th, Moneymaker 16th in All-Around Finals at World University Games

Palma de Mallorca, Spain - UCLA seniors Lena Degteva and Heidi Moneymaker placed in the Top 20 at the all-around finals of the World University Games. Degteva, competing as an individual for Canada, placed 13th with a total of 35.925, improving upon Saturday's preliminary mark of 34.987. Moneymaker, Team USA's top competitor at the Games, placed 16th with a 35.350. In the team competition Saturday, she placed ninth overall with a mark of 37.037.

Russia's Svetlana Khorkina, the defending World Champion, won her second gold with a total of 38.8.

Bruin junior Mohini Bhardwaj, who placed 14th in the preliminaries with a score of 36.225, pulled out of the competition due to an elbow injury aggravated during the team competition. USA teammate Heather Brink of Nebraska also withdrew with an injury. Brink was taken to a hospital for X-rays after injuring a foot during her second event, the floor exercise.
