CORVALLIS, OR - The 19th-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team improved to 14-10 (7-7 Pac-10) on Friday night in Corvallis, OR, defeating Oregon State 3-0, with game scores of 30-19, 30-25, 33-31. Three Bruins posted double figure kills in the match, led by sophomore Brittany Ringel, while sophomore libero Chrissie Zartman led all players with 25 digs.
The Bruins posted impressive hitting percentages of .410 in the opening game and .300 in game two with comfortable victories in both games. In game three, however. UCLA let Oregon State back into the game, as the Beavers were down 27-24 before rallying to take a 30-29 lead and a game point opportunity. A Cira Wright kill kept the Bruins alive, but a UCLA error then gave OSU a second game point before Brittany Ringel downed her 16th kill of the match to tie the game at 31-all. A ball handling error and a hitting error by the Beavers finally gave the third game win to UCLA.
Ringel would lead the Bruins with 16 kills, and would double-double with 11 digs. She was joined in double-figure kills by Lauren Fendrick with 11 and Brynn Murphy with 10, while sophomore libero Chrissie Zartman led all players with 25 digs.
UCLA out-blocked the Beavers by a 10-3 margin, and was led on the block by Wright who had seven blocks on the evening, one solo and six assists.
UCLA returns to action on Saturday night with a 7 pm match in Eugene, OR, against the Oregon Ducks.
