Los Angeles - This Saturday, Apr. 26, the UCLA women's rowing team faces the University of Minnesota on Lake Phelan (Maplewood, Minn.) in an inter-region dual meet. The Bruins are sending two crews for the competition, a varsity eight and a novice eight. The first race is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. CDT.
The dual meet this weekend marks the first out-of-state competition for the UCLA women's rowing team since it became a scholarship sport in 2002. Thus far, the Bruins have competed across northern and southern California.
The Bruins have raced seven times this season. The UCLA women's varsity eight defeated Long Beach State (Mar. 15), Loyola Marymount ( Mar. 29), UC Davis (Apr. 19), and Sacramento State (Apr. 19) in dual meets this season. The squad was also victorious at the Berg Cup (Mar. 22) and the Miller Cup (Apr. 12) and finished fifth in the Women's Cal Cup Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic (Apr. 6).
The UCLA women's novice eight looks to continue their successful season. The squad has won all of its races this season with exception of a third-place showing in the Women's Collegiate Novice Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic (Apr. 6).
Last week, the Bruins competed at the Stanford Invitational (Apr. 19 - Redwood Shores, Calif.), facing UC Davis and Sacramento State in dual-meet rowing action. The UCLA women's varsity eight and novice eight squads won both of their races, while the UCLA women's second varsity eight fell to both the Aggies and the Hornets.
