WOODLAND, Calif. - UCLA sophomore center defender Lauren Heineck was named the MPSF Player of the Week after helping lead the Bruins to two MPSF victories against No. 6 California and Pacific.
On Saturday, March 6 against No. 6 California the Bruins trailed the Bears 3-1 in the fourth period of their 2004 home opener. With UCLA desperately needing a goal, Heineck got the Bruins within one, finding the back of the net with 5:30 remaining in the game. After a Cal player was ejected, Heineck converted on the ensuing 6 on 5 to tie the score at 3-3 and send the game into overtime. In overtime UCLA would edge out Cal for the 6-5 win.
Against Pacific on Sunday, Heineck scored UCLA's first goal of the game and would add another goal in the third period in the Bruins 15-3 victory. This is the second time this season that a UCLA player has been named MPSF Player of the Week, last week sophomore Kristina Kunkel was honored for her play at the Gaucho Tournament.
The Bruins travel to No. 1 USC on Thursday, March 11 and then to San Diego for games against UC San Diego and Princeton on Saturday, March 13.
