Lam, Yovan Advance at So. Cal Intercollegiates

LOS ANGELES - UCLA men's tennis players Chris Lam and Aaron Yovan each picked up singles victories Thursday at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships held at the Los Angeles Tennis Club.

Lam, the tournament's No. 2 seed, defeated San Francisco's Mason Fuller, 6-2, 6-4. He will take on either Pacific's Arnar Sigurdsson or Portland's Peter Malacek in Friday's second round.

Yovan defeated UC Irvine's Jonathan Endrikat, 6-2, 6-3 and will take on USF's Jordan Arnesen on Friday.

Bruin freshmen Chris Surapol and Travis Kinard dropped first round matches Thursday. Surapol lost to USF's Pablo Pires de Almeida, 7-6, 6-2 and Kinard fell to Fresno State's Stefan Suta, 6-4, 6-4.

Senior Lassi Ketola was in the first set of his match when play was suspended due to rain. Doubles play was cancelled.

Junior Tobias Clemens, the tournament's No. 1 seed, was forced to withdraw due to illness.
