HONOLULU - The No. 3 UCLA Bruins (6-0) defeated the Southwest Missouri State Bears (5-2) 30-11, 30-24 and 30-24 in the second day of the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Volleyball Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center Friday. With their 6-0 start, UCLA is now off to its best start since the 1993 season.
Nana Meriwether had a big match at the net for the Bruins, putting away a challenge-record 14 blocks and six kills. Brittany Ringel added 10 kills while hitting .409. Chrissie Zartman had another big match in the back row, finishing with 23 digs.
The threesome of Sabrina Apker, Katie Kreimer and Sarah Lansing led the way for SMS with seven kills. Jane Parker had 15 kills to lead the Bears in the back row.
UCLA wraps up the tournament facing 11th-ranked Hawai'i at 10 p.m. PDT on Saturday night.
