Los Angeles, Calif. - Shalada Allen's game-high 22 points and Michelle Greco's triple double helped lead UCLA to a 96-66 win over the West Coast All-Stars in an exhibition game today in Pauley Pavilion. Allen, a senior forward came off the bench to hit eight of 14 shots from the field and grab nine rebounds. Greco, a senior guard, scored 11 points, pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds and handed out 10 assists to record the rare triple-double.
Three other Bruins scored in double digits - senior center Malika Leatham had 12 points, junior guard Natalie Nakase added 10 more, and sophomore Gennifer Arranaga came off the bench to throw in 14 points. The All-Stars, a team made up of former collegiate players, were led by University of Houston product Timacha Kirby, who had 10 points. Former Bruin LaCresha Flannigan added nine points for the All-Stars.
UCLA used a 14-2 run to open up a 21-7 advantage at the 11:11 mark of the first half and never looked back in winning its second exhibition game. On Nov. 6, UCLA defeated Slovakia (Delta Kosice) by a 83-56 count behind 23 points by Greco.
The Bruins will open up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 16 against Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA) in the first round of the Chevrolet Spartan Classic hosted by Michigan State University. The game should tip off at 3 p.m. Pacific time. The host Spartans will battle Buffalo in the other side of the bracket. The winners/losers will meet on Saturday in the championship and consolation contests. UCLA's first home game of the regular season in on Nov. 24 against Ohio State at 4 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
