Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - Bruin sophomore Caitlin Benyi's first-pitch lead-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning gave UCLA a 3-2 victory over Oregon (32-11, 6-3 Pac-10) on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium. In five career games against Oregon, Benyi now has five home runs against the Ducks. UCLA improves to 29-6 (2-5 Pac-10) with the victory as Keira Goerl moves into a tie for eighth place on the NCAA's all-time list for Division I with her 116th career win.

UCLA opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Claire Sua drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by pinch runner Amanda Simpson. Simpson went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jodie Legaspi. After Lisa Dodd drew a two-out walk, Kristen Dedmon delivered with an RBI single to left center to score Simpson, but was caught in a rundown when she tried to take second base on the play, ending the inning with UCLA leading 1-0.

In the fourth, the Bruins added a second run to their lead as Claire Sua led off with a single to left field. Jodie Legaspi followed with a bloop single to shallow right field, and Emily Zaplatosch delivered with a double off of the wall in right center field to score Sua to give UCLA the 2-0 lead.

Oregon tied the game in the top of the fifth inning as Kayleen Hudson drew a one-out walk and Erin Goodell followed with a two-out home run over the left field fence to tie the score at 2-2.

That score held to the bottom of the seventh inning when Lisa Dodd drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by pinch runner Alissa Eno. A one-out sacrifice by Ashley Herrera advanced Eno to second base, bringing Caitlin Benyi to the plate. Benyi, who has homered four times in five career games against the Ducks, was intentionally walked to get to Andrea Duran, who popped out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Stephanie Ramos led off the inning with a double off the center field wall. Claire Sua was then intentionally walked and Jodie Legaspi attempted to bunt the first pitch, but pulled back on the called strike before Ramos was picked off of second base for the first out of the inning.

Keira Goerl came in to the game in the top of the ninth inning, replacing Michelle Turner who pitched two solid innings, allowing two hits. Turner allowed an Ashley Richards single to lead off the inning before Goerl entered the game. Goerl threw a 10-pitch, eight-strike inning, getting Beth Boskovich out on a sacrifice bunt before striking out Dani Baird and Kayleen Hudson to end the inning.

She would throw another 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 10th, finishing with her third strikeout in six batters faced.

Caitlin Benyi sealed the win for Goerl, taking the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th inning over the center field fence for her 15th home run of the season and fifth in as many games against the Ducks. In her two years in a Bruin uniform, Benyi has hit five home runs and gone 10-for-16 at the plate with a .625 batting average, eight runs scored, eight RBIs, four walks and a 1.1563 slugging percentage in five games against Oregon.

The Bruins return to action on Friday afternoon at Easton Stadium with a 1 pm first pitch against Stanford.
