Three UCLA men's tennis players advanced to the semifinals of singles play at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup in Thousand Oaks, Calif on Saturday.
Second-seeded Ben Kohlloeffel advanced following a 6-4, 6-1 decision over No. 7-seeded Johan Berg of USC. Fourth-seeded Luben Pampoulov posted a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory over USC's Jamil Al-Agba. The biggest win of the day was provided by sophomore Philipp Gruendler, who upset top-seeded Sam Warburg of Stanford, 7-5, 6-3. The only Bruin to fall in the quarterfinals was fifth-seeded Chris Lam, who fell to third-seeded Lars Poerschke of Baylor, 6-4, 6-3. Sunday's semifinals will feature Gruendler vs. Pampoulov and Kohlloeffel vs. Poerschke.
In doubles action, Mathieu Dehaine and Lam defeated SDSU's Markus Kickhardt/Daniel Jung, 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. Kohlloeffel and Pampoulov advanced with a bye.

Pepperdine's Pedro Rico defeated UCLA's Kris Kwinta, 7-5, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the National Collegiate Tennis Classic. Kwinta was the lone remaining Bruin in the singles draw after Alberto Francis fell on Friday. Francis and Kwinta were also upset in the first round of doubles on Friday.
