Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - It took 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium, but the second-ranked UCLA softball team took a 1-0 win off the field on an RBI single with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning off the bat of Natasha Watley. With the win, the Bruins improve to 37-6 (5-3 Pac-10) while California falls to 39-14 (5-4 Pac-10).

The two teams combined to leave 25 runners on base, as the Golden Bears left the bases loaded in the first inning, while UCLA left them loaded in the sixth.

Both pitchers went the distance, with UCLA's Amanda Freed striking out seven and scattering four hits in the game, allowing one hit in the second, third and fourth before posting four straight three-up, three-down innings. The Golden Bears did not record their fourth hit of the game until there were two outs in the ninth inning.

Meanwhile, Cal's Jocelyn Forest scattered the nine hits she allowed, while striking out 14 and walking just three Bruins. Forest only gave up multiple hits in the sixth, on singles by Tairia Mims and Stephanie Ramos, but UCLA was unable to score.

The only run of the game came just past the three-hour mark, with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning. Toria Auelua led off with a single to left field, and was pinch-run for by senior Casey Hiraiwa. Hiraiwa advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Monique Mejia, before Erin Rahn flied out, bringing Watley to the plate. Watley shot a ground ball through the right side of the infield, scoring Hiraiwa from second base and giving the Bruins the 1-0 victory.

UCLA's win gives the Bruins a 5-3 conference record, moving them into a tie for second place with Arizona State. Both teams sit two games behind Arizona (7-1) in the Pac-10 standings.

The Bruins return to action on Friday afternoon at UCLA's Easton Stadium with a 2 pm game against Oregon State. UCLA will then play weekend games against Oregon, with Saturday's game scheduled for 2 pm and Sunday's game slated for a 1 pm first pitch.
