Two members of the Bruin defense - senior defensive end Kenyon Coleman and senior inside linebacker Robert Thomas --have been named to pre-season watch list of the Rotary Lombardi Award, presented annually to the nation's most outstanding lineman.
Coleman missed virtually all of the 2000 season after suffering a knee injury in the Bruins' third game of the year and was granted a substitute year of eligibility. In 1999, he earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors while making 50 tackles, including nine behind the line of scrimmage.
In 2000, Thomas was one of 11 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, presented to the nation's top linebacker. He was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection and led the Bruins with 88 tackles and six fumbles caused. He also made nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
