Merrick Ties for 21st at All-America Golf Classic

UCLA junior John Merrick tied for 21st place at the Western Refining All-America Golf Classic hosted by the Sun Bowl at the El Paso Country Club.

Merrick posted a 76 on Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 227 and tied with Minnesota's Justin Smith.

TCU's Adam Rubinson won the event with a score of 208, five-under par. Tied for second place were Brendon DeJonge of Virginia Tech and Ryan Hybl of Georgia at even par 213.

Other Pac-10 players included Washington's Brock Mackenzie who placed fourth and Ricky Barnes and Chris Nallen who tied for 15th.

Merrick now travels to Hilton Head, SC for a special practice session in advance of the 2003 Walker Cup. The UCLA junior and several U.S. amateurs will practice Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at Berkeley Hall Golf Club.
