The UCLA Women's Water Team returns to Sunset Canyon Recreation Center this weekend after a successful Hawaii road trip. The Bruins took first place at the Rainbow Classic, defeating UC Santa Barbara 4-3. UCLA finished the tournament with a 5-0-1 record, however the Bruins victories over San Jose State and UC Santa Barbara will be the only games that will count towards UCLA's regular season record. Following the Rainbow Classic, UCLA faced the University of Hawaii on Tuesday, March 30 in an MPSF match. The Bruins defeated the Rainbow Wahine 5-4 to improve to 14-3 and 4-1 in the MPSF.

WEEKLY RECAP: RAINBOW CLASSIC, MARCH 27-28, 2004:

HONOLULU - UCLA topped UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, to claim the 2004 Rainbow Classic, Sunday, at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The Bruins finished the three-day tournament with a 5-0-1 mark and improved to 13-3 on the year. The two teams opened the match by playing tough defense as neither team scored in the opening period. A goal by UCLA's Brittney Bowlus on a pass from Kristina Kunkel at the 4-meter mark put the Bruins on the scoreboard first, 33 seconds into the second quarter. Another Bruin goal by Lauren Heineck at the 0:26 mark put UCLA ahead 2-0 going into the half. After the break UCSB's Corrine Salera cut the Bruin lead to one. The Bruins bit back, as Molly Cahill scored on a penalty shot, after a Gaucho foul. A backhand goal by Bowlus with 0:05 remaining in the third gave UCLA a 3-1 lead. UC Santa Barbara went on a late scoring run in the fourth period. UCSB's Erin Miller scored after stealing the ball from UCLA goalie Emily Feher. The Gauchos cut the lead to one on a penalty shot by Alaina Whitaker with 2:30 remaining. The Bruin defense proved to be too much for the Gauchos, as UCLA let the clock run out sealing the 4-3 win.

WEEKLY RECAP: AT HAWAII, MARCH 30, 2004:

Honolulu, HI - The Bruins wrapped up their Hawaiian tour with a 5-4 victory over the University of Hawaii. The Bruins improve to 14-3 overall, 4-1 MPSF. The Bruins took an early lead in the first quarter of play. Katherine Belden, Molly Cahill and Kristina Kunkel each netted a goal to put the Bruins up 3-0. In the second quarter, the Hawaii's Shannon Carroll and Beth Novick scored two goals. Kunkel netted her second goal of the game, putting the Bruins up 4-2. In the third quarter of play, Hawaii's Audrey Harrer scored a goal on a power play to bring the Rainbow Wahine within one. But, the Bruins were able to insure the victory on a goal by Belden with 3:41 to go in the game. The Bruins have an undefeated all-time record of 20-0 against Hawaii.
