Nine UCLA swimmers will head to Irvine, CA August 3-7 for the U.S. Swimming Nationals. This will be the largest contingent of athletes UCLA has sent, and the Bruins are eyeing the chance at several national titles.
Slated to compete are - seniors Kim Vandenberg (100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly), Krista Daley (200 Fly) and Eileen Seissen (100 Breast); juniors Katie Arnold (100 Back, 200 Back and 50 Free), Jeana Fuccillo (200 Breast and 400 IM), Isabel Miesner (200 IM) and Jane Imagane (400 Free and 800 Free); sophomores Chiemi Yamamoto (200 Breast, 200 IM and 400 IM) and Shannon Hackett (400 Free).
Also swimming at U.S. Nationals, but competing for their club teams are - senior Shellene Catalano, junior Katie Nelson, sophomores Katherine Wong and Shannon Hackett, and incoming freshman Anna Poteete.
Last year at the U.S. Championships, Vandenberg won a national title in the 200 Fly and will use this meet to prepare for the World University Games in Turkey. Vandenberg, along with Head Coach Cyndi Gallagher (who is serving as an assistant coach for Team USA), will head to Turkey August 8.
