Box Score

UCLA (29-25) dropped a 7-5 contest to UC Irvine (32-17-1) in its last home contest of the season on Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. It marked the final home game for Bruin head coach Gary Adams.

UC Irvine scored early, posting two runs in the second and one in the third to build a 3-0 lead.

UCLA got on the board in the fourth when a two-out double from Matt Thayer turned into a run when Chris Denove drove him in with a single through the right side.

The Anteaters scored two more in the fifth frame on a two-run home run from Jordan Szabo.

UCLA would cut the Irvine lead to three runs in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan McCarthy's second double of the night brought Brett McMillan across home plate. He had reached on a single earlier in the inning. After five, UCLA trailed 5-2.

After Irvine added two more to its total in the top of the seventh, UCLA scored two in the bottom of the inning to bring the Anteater advantage to two runs. A one-out walk to Jarrad Page started the rally and a double from Preston Griffin put runners at second and third for the Bruins. Pinch hitter Billy Susdorf brought both runs home with a double down the right field line. McCarthy would be hit by a pitch to continue the one-out rally. Wes Whisler would bring Susdorf home on a fielder's choice to score the fifth Bruin run of the night.

Despite keeping Irvine off the board in the final innings, UCLA was unable overcome the Anteater lead.

Thayer and McCarthy both had two hits on the night, while Susdorf led the team with two RBIs.

The Bruins will travel to Washington for a three-game Pac-10 series this weekend. Friday night's game will start at 6:30 p.m.
