UCLA-USC Post-Game Quotes

UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell
"That was one hell of a football game. I'm proud of our football team. We fought from beginning to end. This team, with our character and our direction, is building toward our future. I'm disappointed about today, but I'm excited about the future."

"The game was intense and fun, but we still have a lot of work to do."

(On the apparent fumbles that were not called) "The referee said the whistle blew and that forward progress had been stopped. I was frustrated by both of those calls. With a game of this magnitude, I understand that there's human error. Sometimes the ball bounces your way; sometimes it doesn't."

(On Reggie Bush) "I have no advice in terms of stopping him. No one has been able to stop him. He's a good player."

(On the defensive approach today) "The defense did a great job in stepping up. We had a couple of picks on Matt (Leinart). We did not want to give them many opportunities. I'm very proud of our defense. The defense did well; we tried to control their running game."

(On Craig Bragg's touchdown return) "It was an excellent play. He made people miss, he found a crease, he made a nice decision in cutting through the defense and making a great play."

(On the difference between last year's game) "The game last year wasn't close. This game was very exciting and hard-fought on both sides of the ball. I'm very proud of our team. We almost pulled it off. The game wasn't out of reach. We had the opportunity to do great things, but we came up short."

"It was a good team effort. We outplayed USC in the second half. Special teams were solid. Our offense kind of sputtered in the first half. This was not our best effort, but I'll take it when playing the best team in the country."

(On UCLA's seniors) "Craig (Bragg) played well, made excellent catches. Tab (Perry) played well. Our seniors stepped up and did what they could for our team. I could see it in their eyes that they wanted to play well. It was special to have their last game at the Rose Bowl."

"We have been headed forward all season long. We have been moving forward since the first game of the season. We're trying to get a little better, a little bigger, a little faster and become better students better than we did this year."

USC head coach Pete Carroll "I'm proud to see the season end on a good note. We found out last year how hard the last game is (vs. Oregon State). UCLA played hard and they prepared well for us, but we came out on top. Our team wouldn't let down, kept coming and did stuff right. It's a great challenge to begin the season at No. 1 and an even bigger challenge to end it there."

"Reggie Bush and Ryan Killeen came up big tonight. Reggie put up big numbers, which is phenomenal for this type of game. Last week at Notre Dame, Ryan spoke to the team and thanked them for hanging with him through his tough times, but now he's on a pretty good streak." "They did everything they could today to stop us, and their special teams stepped up, but we were able to come through in the end."
