LOS ANGELES - The UCLA men's water polo team received the No. 1 seed for the 2000 NCAA Championships to be held December 2-3 at Pepperdine University. The Bruins will take on No. 4 seed Navy on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. USC, the No. 2 seed, received the at-large berth and will play No. 3 seed UC San Diego at 2:30 p.m.
The third-place match will take place on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. with the national championship match taking place at 2:30 p.m.
UCLA won the MPSF Championship and earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, defeating California 6-5 in the title game. USC fell in the first round of the tournament to Pepperdine, but rebounded to defeat Pacific and Stanford to place fifth.
UCLA has not faced Navy or UC San Diego this year, but has played USC four times. UCLA is 3-1 against the Trojans, winning the last three games. Most recently, the Bruins defeated USC on November 18, 6-5 at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.
UCLA is the defending NCAA Champion, defeating Stanford 6-5 in last year's championship game. The Bruins have won six national championships overall, and three of the last five NCAA crowns.
