Quarterback Scott McEwan of UCLA and inside linebacker Kevin Mitchell and punt returner Keenan Howry of Oregon have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football.
McEwan, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., directed UCLA to a 52-42 win over Arizona State in his first career start. McEwan completed 20-of-36 passes for 280 yards, while throwing for three touchdowns. The Bruin offense piled up 27 first downs and 536 yards total offense.
Mitchell, a sophomore from Orange, Calif., led the defensive effort in Oregon's 17-14 win over Oregon State. Mitchell recorded a career-high 17 tackles, including eight solo tackles and five for loss of nine yards. The Oregon defense limited Oregon State to 107 yards rushing on 38 attempts.
Howry, a junior from Los Alamitos, Calif., helped seal Oregon's win over Oregon State after taking a punt return 70 yards for a touchdown. The score helped the Ducks overcome a 6-3 fourth quarter deficit. Overall, Howry returned four punts for 103 yards.
