UCLA's women's and men's track and field teams will travel to Colorado Springs, CO this Saturday (Feb. 17) for the Air Force Invitational Indoor meet.
Last weekend (Feb. 10-11), selected Bruin women's and men's runners competed at the Iowa State Indoor in Ames, IA.
Leading the way for the Bruins was junior Ysanne Williams, who had the ninth best time in the 800m, placing first in her heat with a mark of 2:09.29 (NCAA provisional qualifier).
Other Bruin women's 800m runners included ' sophomore Jessica Marr, 13th best time, first in her heat (2:09.71, personal-best), sophomore Tiffany Burgess, 16th best time, second in her heat (2:10.49, personal-best, Pac-10 qualifying mark, the conference accepts indoor marks for the conference outdoor meet in May) and senior Bridget Hatch, 18th best time, third in her heat (2:11.44).
Also in women's competition, junior Elaine Canchola placed seventh in the 3000m, with a personal-best and Pac-10 qualifying mark of 9:42.49.
In men's races, senior Will Bernaldo placed sixth in the 5000m with a personal-best mark of 14:19.91 and in the mile, senior Paul Muite improved his time, with a mark of 4:12.44.
Looking ahead, the Bruins will compete Feb. 24-25 at the MPSF Indoor at Flagstaff, AZ, March 2-Last Chance Qualifier at Ames, IA, March 2-3-USA Indoor at Atlanta and March 9-10-NCAA Indoor at Fayetteville, AR (in 2000, the UCLA women won the team title, the first NCAA Indoor championship in school history).
