Nikki Blue, Lisa Willis Named To All-Pac-10 First Team

March 3, 2005

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Junior guards Nikki Blue (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Lisa Willis (Long Beach, Calif.) have been chosen by the league's coaches as first-team selections to the All-Pac-10 Conference Team. Sophomore guard Noelle Quinn (Los Angeles, Calif.), who missed more than half of Pac-10 play with a knee injury, earned honorable mention acclaim, and forward Lindsey Pluimer (San Clemente, Calif.) received first-team All-Freshman honors.

Blue has done it all for UCLA in 2004-05, leading the team in scoring average (16.2) and assists (6.12), ranking second in steals (3.35) and third in rebound average (5.0). In Pac-10 play, her numbers are even more impressive, as she averaged a conference-best 18.8 points per game, along with posting averages of 6.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 steals. This is Blue's third consecutive first-team selection.

Willis earns first-team all-conference honors for the first time in her career. She leads UCLA and the Pac-10 in steals (3.7 average) and three-pointers made (68) and ranks fifth and 23rd nationally in those respective categories. Willis ranks fifth in the Conference in both scoring (15.9) and rebounding (6.9) and leads the team in points scored (430) and double-doubles (five).

Quinn put up impressive numbers prior to her knee injury suffered on Jan. 16. On the year, she averaged a team-best 16.9 points and 7.1 rebounds and also had 3.25 steals. In seven Pac-10 games, she averaged 13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 steals. A mid-season Wooden Award and Naismith Award nominee, Quinn earned Pac-10 Player of the Week three times and had 15 double-figure scoring games, including seven 20-point games.

Pluimer is the 12th Bruin to earn All-Freshman honors and the third consecutive to make the first team. She ranks sixth in the Pac-10 with 6.5 rebounds per game and is averaging 10.3 points per game with a 43.6% field goal percentage. She has started in all 27 games for the Bruins.

Stanford's Candice Wiggins became the first Pac-10 women's basketball player ever to be named Player of the Year as a freshman. She was also named Freshman of the Year. Stanford's Tara VanDerveer was selected the Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the seventh time in her career.
