Los Angeles - The UCLA women's rowing team travels to San Diego this weekend, April 6 and 7, to compete in the 29th Annual San Diego Crew Classic Regatta. Showcasing over 3,300 athletes ranging from juniors to masters to Olympians, the San Diego Crew Classic is the largest multi-laned regatta for Eights in the United States.
On Saturday, April 6, 53 events are scheduled for the day, with the first event beginning at 7:00 a.m. and the last race scheduled for 4:50 p.m. The Bruins have entered three crews for the weekend, the Varsity 8, the JV 8, and the Novice 8. The Varsity 8 will compete for the Women's Cal Cup and is scheduled to row at 7:30 a.m. The JV and Novice 8's are scheduled to row at 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., respectively.
On Sunday, April 7, 43 events are scheduled for the day, featuring the Petite and Grand Finals. The top qualifiers from Saturday's competition will compete in the Grand Finals, while the second selection of top times will compete in the Petite Finals. Sunday's events begin at 7:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m.
The UCLA women's rowing team traveled to Wilmington, Calif. to face cross-town rival, USC, in the Lexus Gauntlet Challenge. The Bruins took an early 2-0 lead, winning the first two races of the morning, the Varsity 4 (1 point) and the Novice 8 (1 point). The Women of Troy, however, struck back with decisive victories in the JV (2 points) and Varsity 8 (3 points). USC won the meet 5-2 and captured all five points for women's rowing toward the Lexus Gauntlet Challenge. USC currently leads the gauntlet 52.5 - 37.5.
