Bruins Defeated In Season Finale At Stanford

The top-ranked Stanford women's tennis team (25-0, 8-0 Pac-10) defeated eighth-ranked UCLA (14-8, 6-2 Pac-10) 7-2 this afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford won four of six singles matches, before sweeping all three doubles matches for the victory. Second-ranked sophomore Marissa Irvin (Santa Monica, CA) defeated seventh-ranked Sara Walker of UCLA, 6-1, 6-1. Ninth-ranked Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL) recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory over 59th-ranked Amanda Basica of UCLA at No. 3, while senior Jennifer Heiser (Stockton, CA) defeated UCLA's Elizabeth Schmidt 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and sophomore Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ) was a winner over the Bruins' Zana Zlebnik 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

Irvin and senior Teryn Ashley (Chestnut Hill, MA), ranked seventh in doubles, defeated 12th-ranked Walker and Basica of UCLA 8-6 in the featured doubles match.

The Bruins will be participating in the Pac-10 singles and doubles championships on April 27-30 in Ojai, Calif. This will be the 100th anniversary of the Ojai Tournament.
