LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UCLA freshman driver Brett Ormsby (El Cajon/Valhalla) has been named the Mikasa/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week in men's water polo for the week ending Oct. 9. The announcement was made Wednesday morning by MPSF Commissioner Al Beaird.
Ormsby scored four goals in the Bruins' 7-5 victory over then-No. 2 USC last Saturday at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. Three of his tallies came on extra-man opportunities, including a score with 3:45 remaining to break a 4-4 tie and put UCLA ahead to stay.
Ormsby has emerged as one of the nation's top freshmen and leads the Bruins with 17 goals in six matches. He is the first UCLA player to earn the award since Adam Wright was honored on November 21, 2000.
