UCLA Women Jump Into AP Basketball Rankings At No. 25

Nov. 29, 2004

The UCLA women's basketball team has moved into the AP rankings this week, checking in at No. 25 after a 63-60 upset win over fourth-ranked Texas on Sunday afternoon. This is the first time UCLA has been ranked in the AP poll since the week of Feb. 21, 2000, when the Bruins were ranked 22nd.

The Bruins' win over Texas was their first over a Top 10 opponent since the opening of the 1999-2000 season, when they defeated No. 8 North Carolina, 69-65. The Longhorns, which had defeated No. 1 Tennessee three days prior to losing to UCLA, dropped to No. 7. LSU takes over as the No. 1 team, followed by North Carolina, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Stanford.

"I think we're playing very good basketball right now," said UCLA head coach Kathy Olivier. "It's so early but we're executing and doing little things really well. Hopefully we can maintain it throughout the year."

UCLA (3-1) will next face Pepperdine (1-3) in Malibu on Thursday, Dec. 2 before hosting 14th-ranked Purdue on Sunday, Dec. 5 in a game that will be televised live on Fox Sports Net.
