Gruendler and Kohlloeffel set a new school record by posting their 20th-consecutive victory together in a 4-3 UCLA win over USC on Friday, clinching a share of the 2006 Pac-10 title for the Bruins. Gruendler and Kohlloeffel, the nation's second-ranked doubles team, fought off four match points in their 9-8(6) win over 32nd-ranked Jamil Al-Agba/Dejan Cvetkovic at No. 1 doubles. They finish the regular season undefeated in dual-match play (20-0), owning a 25-2 overall record. UCLA's previous record for consecutive doubles victories was 19, set by Patrick Galbraith and Brian Garrow in 1989.
This marks Gruendler and Kohlloeffel's first Pac-10 Players of the Week honor as a doubles team and UCLA's third weekly honor all-time. The tandem are the first in the Conference to be named Players of the Week as a doubles team. Kohlloeffel has earned two Player of the Week awards this season for his performance on the singles court.
