May 9, 2000

Walnut Creek, Calif - Following her impressive run at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai two weeks ago, UCLA's Sara Walker was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year on Tuesday, as announced by the conference office.

She is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest ITA singles rankings, with a 33-7 overall record. Later this month, she will be aiming to become the first UCLA player to win the NCAA singles title since Keri Phebus achieved the feat back in 1995.

Also honored Tuesday was senior Annica Cooper and freshman Abigail Spears. Cooper, the 1998 Pac-10 Player of the Year, was named to the All-Pac-10 Second Team. Freshman Abigail Spears was named All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention.
