The UCLA men's track and field team will head to the Valley this weekend for the Cal State Northridge Invitational. The meet will begin on Friday, Mar. 18 with the women and men's hammer competition at 1:00 pm, with the remainder of the meet beginning on Saturday, Mar. 19. Field event competition begins at 9:15 am on Saturday with the men's long jump and women's javelin and running events begin at 9:00 am with the men's 5000m.
The Bruin men are coming off of an impressive NCAA Indoor Championships in which the Distance Medley Relay team and Craig Everhart earned All-American honors. The DMR team of seniors Ben Aragon and Jon Rankin and juniors Martell Munguia and Everhart finished second to Michigan in a time of 9:33.60, giving all four men All-American honors. Everhart also placed eighth in the 400m to earn his second All-American honor of the meet.
At the UCLA Invitational (March 5), the men picked up eight regional qualifying marks in just the first meet of the season. Athletes that have qualified for the Regional meet include - freshman John Caulfield (SP-61-2.75, DT-171-5), junior Jeremy Silverman (SP, 60-7.75), freshman Greg Garza (DT-176-0), sophomore Jason Rider (DT-169-4), freshman Josh Rider (DT-165-7), senior Jonathan Williams (110mH-14.16) and senior Jon Rankin (800m-1:50.32).
