FSN PRIME TICKET presents "In My Own Words: Al Scates" on Saturday, September 2. The newest installment in the periodic "In My Own Words" series focuses on Al Scates, one of the NCAA's most successful coaches and current UCLA men's head volleyball coach. Scates speaks openly with FSN PRIME TICKET reporter Jim Watson, sharing his many career successes throughout the half hour show. "In My Own Words: Al Scates" debuts Saturday, September 2 at 8 PM on FSN PRIME TICKET immediately following "Bruins Live" post-game coverage of the UCLA vs. Utah football game.
What began as a simple volleyball tryout at Santa Monica College, soon gave way to passion and pure success for Al Scates. A former UCLA volleyball All-American, Scates boasts a coaching record of 1,135 wins and 212 losses, which amounts to an unequaled .843 career winning percentage.
Scates took over the UCLA volleyball program in 1963. Operating with a paltry $100 season budget, Scates attired his team in John Wooden's basketball jersey hand-me-downs. On the brink of his 45th season, Scates can look back on a career that ranks amongst the greatest of all collegiate coaches. He has led his teams to 21 national championships, produced 51 All-Americans and even predicted last season's national title at a monthly UCLA coaches meeting with the team struggling with a 12-12 midseason mark. Following the September 2 debut, "In My Own Words: Al Scates" airs on FSN PRIME TICKET as follows: Sept. 4 at 10PM; Sept. 6 at 10 PM; Sept. 10 at 10:30 PM; Sept. 11 at 10PM and Sept. 13 at 9:30 PM.
Each 30-minute presentation of "In My Own Words" strips down the documentary format to just three elements for a sports personality -- with his or her own face, voice and story -- to present Southern California fans with an intimate profile of some of the sports world's most compelling figures. Each "In My Own Words" is devoted to one subject and centers on a sit-down interview with that person. The program then fosters an even clearer picture of the athlete or coach by adding previously unaired interviews, locker room sound bites, and candid footage to the mix. "In My Own Words" reflects the commitment of FSN PRIME TICKET to provide locally-focused, regionally relevant original programming to sports fans in Southern California.
