LOS ANGELES - True freshman quarterback J.P. Losman, who entered UCLA in April after graduating early from Venice (CA) High School, has decided to transfer to another school, Bruin head football coach Bob Toledo announced today.
"I met with J.P. and his father a few weeks ago. At that time, J.P. indicated that he was considering transferring," said Toledo. "I told him to take some time to think about what he wanted to do. I spoke with him by telephone late last week and he told me he has decided to transfer.
"J.P. told me he does not want to redshirt this year and I think he's concerned with the number of quarterbacks we have in the program," Toledo continued. "I told him that there will be competition anywhere he goes and that he's only been in our system for one quarter and should be patient. I don't believe he's selected a new school yet but we will give him his release to transfer."
Losman's departure leaves the Bruins with four scholarship quarterbacks: junior Drew Bennett, sophomore Scott McEwan and redshirt freshmen Ryan McCann and Cory Paus. The first day of fall practice is set for August 14. The Bruins' first game is Sept. 4 versus Boise State.
