The UCLA women's golf program signed an outstanding local player to a National Letter of Intent, the athletic department announced today.
Sydnee Michaels (Lindfield Christian HS, Temecula, CA) will add talent and depth to the Bruins' already imposing lineup.
"We are very excited to bring Sydnee into our program," said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. "She has proven herself to be the top recruit in the class of 2006. She has enjoyed tremendous success on the AJGA circuit and in national events. She is a long hitter with a great short game, and I fully expect her to have an immediate impact on our team next Fall."
Michaels, ranked seventh nationally by the AJGA and eighth by GolfWeek, has been a stalwart on the AJGA circuit the last few years. Over the summer she won the Pacific Northwest International with scores of 67-72-69-208 and the Mission Hills Desert Junior with scores of 74-70-70-214. She also placed third at the Heather Farr Classic with scores of 71-69-140. Finally, at the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur Championship, she finished sixth in stroke play and advanced to the quarterfinals of the match play draw.
In 2004 Michaels played in five AJGA events and recorded three Top 10 finishes, including a third place finish at the Transamerica Junior at Hiwan. She tied for 18th at the U.S. Girls Jr. Amateur before falling in the first round of match play.
