UCLA Travels To Face Oregon Schools - The Bruins will travel to meet Oregon State (10-9, 6-3) at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Beavers defeated Oregon on Saturday by a score of 61-53 to stop an 11-game losing streak against the Ducks. Felicia Ragland now leads the conference in scoring with a 20.5 average.

UCLA leads the series with Oregon State by a margin of 24-14. Oregon State won the first meeting of the season in Pauley Pavilion on December 22 by a score of 79-65. The Beavers led by as many as 15 points in the game, but saw the Bruins rally to take the lead in the second half. A late Beaver surge earned the win. Kristee Porter led the Bruins with 20 points.

On Saturday, the Bruins will play at the University of Oregon at 7 p.m. The Ducks own an 18-16 advantage in the series with UCLA. Oregon captured the first meeting of this season in Pauley Pavilion on December 20, 76-67. UCLA used a furious second half rally to cut a 25-point Duck lead to just two points. The Ducks made some key free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Kristee Porter led UCLA with 18 points in the game.

Radio/TV - Both games will be broadcast live on KACD 850 am (Thousand Oaks) and KEWS 1340 am (Riverside). Both games will be on the internet at www.uclabruins.com.

Notes - Natalie Nakase recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-best 11 rebounds against Arizona ...Nakase has converted 23 of her last 27 free throws to improve her average to .759 ...In the last five games, Nakase has handed out 34 assists and had just 12 turnovers ... Whitney Jones scored a season-high 15 points in the loss to Arizona State then followed it up with 17 points against Arizona ... Jones also tied her season best with nine rebounds against the Wildcats ...Jamila Veasley had a career-best five steals in her start against ASU ... For the second consecutive year, the Bruins lead the Pac-10 Conference in steals, averaging 10.41 steals a game. UCLA also leads in turnover margin, with a +5.35 margin ... Individually, Nakase ranks third in assists (5.59), fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.83) and eighth in steals (1.82) ... Jones ranks seventh in steals (1.83) ...Malika Leatham ranks eighth in rebounding (6.5) ... The Bruins have added Brittany Ringel, a 6-1 freshman forward from Arlington, TX (Trinity Valley HS) to the roster. She began practice with the team on Jan. 8. Ringel is also a member of the UCLA volleyball team and played a reserve role at the outside hitter position this past season.

Greco To Sit Out Rest of Season - It was announced on Wednesday, December 12 that Bruin leading scorer Michelle Greco will not participate for the remainder of the current season for medical reasons. Due to a history of mild concussions during her sophomore and junior year, the UCLA Medical Staff believes that Greco should take a year off from competition. At the conclusion of the 2001-02 season, UCLA will submit a medical hardship petition to the Pacific-10 Conference with the hope that Greco will be granted another year of collegiate eligibility.

Porter To Pursue Professional Volleyball Opportunities - Junior forward Kristee Porter has left UCLA (as of Jan. 4) to pursue professional and U.S. national team opportunities in volleyball. Porter averaged 11.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in five games with the Bruins. She joined the team after volleyball season Dec. 8 and scored nine points with five rebounds in her final game at Cal, Dec. 30. Porter's season-best total was 20 points against Oregon State on Dec. 22. Porter, the UCLA and Pac-10 career kills record-holder, was a two-time volleyball All-American and the 2000 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year.

2001-02 Game Recaps

Arizona Downs Bruins, 71-60 - Arizona held UCLA scoreless for nearly five minutes late in the first half to turn a 20-19 UCLA lead into a 26-20 Wildcat lead and never looked back. Natalie Nakase recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 assists, and Whitney Jones led the Bruins with a season-best 17 points. Gennifer Arranaga added 12 points off the bench.

No. 23 ASU Deals Bruins 70-57 Loss - The No. 23 Sun Devils outscored UCLA 13-3 to end the first half with a 30-21 advantage and then shot 80% in the second half of the game to thwart any Bruin comeback hopes. ASU made five of its last six shots to end the first half and 11 of its first 13 shots of the second half in handing the Bruins a 70-57 setback. Whitney Jones led UCLA with 15 points and seven rebounds. Malika Leatham added 10 points and eight rebounds.
