Women's Diving Competes at NCAA Zone E Diving Championships

THIS WEEK - Three UCLA divers will travel to Tempe, AZ to compete in the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Fri. Mar.12-Sat. Mar. 13. Anne Baghramian, Liz Ackerman and Delilah More will compete at NCAA Zonals and try to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Athens, GA on Mar. 18-20.

BRUINS FINISH FIFTH AT PAC-10s - UCLA took fifth place at the 1999 Women's Pac- 10 Swimming & Diving Championships with a score of 856.50. Junior All-American Keiko Price claimed the 100 free title and finished third in the 50 free. This is the 12th straight year UCLA has had an individual Pac-10 champion and the 24th overall individual Pac-10 title for the Bruins. Freshman Katie Younglove recorded an impressive second place finish in the 200 fly with a career-best time and the third fastest in school history (1:59.35). UCLA competed well, with 17 swimmers recording career-best times.

UCLA TRAVELS TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS - Eleven Bruin swimmers will be competing at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on Mar. 18-20 in Athens, GA. Swimmers Nicole Beck, Angela Belloni, Beth Goodwin, Lyndee Hovsepian, Jen Noddle, Keiko Price, Katie Ryan, Becky Thompson, Julia Voitovitsch, Amber Wines and Katie Younglove will all be shooting for a top-10 finish for UCLA at NCAAs. The last time the Bruins took 11 swimmers to NCAAs, UCLA finished seventh (1993-94). UCLA finished 13th at NCAAs last season with a score of 121.0.

LIZ ACKERMAN - Freshman diver Liz Ackerman (Westport, CT/Staples HS) has emerged as UCLA's top freshman diver. She finished with a team-best ninth place on one- meter at Pac-10s and took 17th place on three-meter. She ranks first on one- meter (championship standards) on the team, recording a score of 383.75 at the Husker Shoot Out. Her top finishes this season include second on one-meter against San Diego, Arizona State, Santa Barbara and at the Husker Shoot Out. She also finished third on one-meter against Pac-10 rivals Cal and USC.

ANNE BAGHRAMIAN - UCLA's top diver this season, sophomore Anne Baghramian (Long Beach/Chadwick School) holds UCLA's top scores on one-meter and three-meter for both championship and dual meets and on platform (12 dives). Baghramian recorded team-best finishes on three-meter and platform, finishing 8th and 7th respectively. She took 11th on one-meter as well at Pac-10s. She has totaled eight first place finishes this season, including a sweep of both the one- and three- meter boards against California, San Diego and UCLA's double-dual meet against ASU and Santa Barbara. Baghramian also finished first on three-meter at the adidas Sprint Classic.

DELILAH MORE - Sophomore Delilah More (Mission Viejo/Capistrano Valley HS) has added experience to UCLA's young class of divers. More finished eighth on platform, 14th on one-meter and 15th on three-meter at Pac-10s. She recorded UCLA's top score on platform (8 dives) with a score of 335.85 at the Bruin Invitational. Her top finishes this season include third on three-meter and fourth on one-meter against Cal.

CELEBRATING WOMEN'S ATHLETICS - The UCLA Athletic Department will celebrate the Silver Anniversary of UCLA Women's Intercollegiate Athletics on May 1, 1999. "A Celebration of Champions" dinner will honor the accomplishments of the UCLA Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Program and its athletes over the past 25 years.
