LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The UCLA Women's Water Polo team defeated Pacific 15-3 for their second victory over the Tigers this season. After converting on three 6 on 5's in the first period the Bruins would gain a 4-1 lead and never look back, outscoring Pacific 11-2 the rest of the way. With the victory the Bruins move to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the MPSF.
The Bruins got on the board first with a 6 on 5 goal by Lauren Heineck with 5:46 remaining. This would be followed by an even strength goal by Jenna Murphy forty seconds later. UCLA would then convert on their next 6 on 5 with a goal from Kristina Kunkel. A Pacific goal would cut it to 3-1 with 1:05 left, but a Brittney Bowlus goal with 31 seconds left gave UCLA the 4-1 lead after one period. Pacific would score first in the second period to make it 4-2 but would get to closer as three unanswered goals by the Bruins would make it 7-2 at the half. The third period would be all UCLA, as goals by Jenna Murphy Lauren Heineck, Katie Flanagan, and Brittney Bowlus made it 11-2 at the end of three periods of play. In the final period the Tigers would manage one goal, but another goal from Brittney Bowlus (her game leading fifth on the day) and goals from Kelley Koepp, Leah Mazziliano and Paloma Slezak earned UCLA the 15-3 win.
Brittney Bowlus led the Bruins with five goals. Jenna Murphy and Lauren Heineck each scored twice and Kelley Koepp, Katherine Belden, Leah Mazziliano, Paloma Slezak and Kristina Kunkel had one goal each. Goalkeeper Tahlia Kerr recorded 10 saves for the Bruins.
The Bruins return to action on Thursday, March 11 when they will travel to face crosstown rival USC. UCLA's next exciting home game will be Saturday, April 3 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
