In May, 1998, Stanford University will host the nation's finest track and field athletes as they compete in the 1998 Pac-10 Championships. The tradition of excellence in the Pac-10 is no secret. The Pac-10 produced 50 track and field Olympians at the Atlanta Games.
Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24, is Championship Weekend. Don't be surprised to see former Olympians Bob Mathias, Lennox Miller, Hal and Pat Connolly, Regina Jacobs, and others on the Stanford campus. Watch Olympians of today and tomorrow compete at nationally acclaimed Cobb Track and Angell Field. The heptathlon and decathlon will be contested on May 16-17. Seating is general admission.

Jeremy Lyon is another top distance runner in the 3,000 meter steeplechase ... Abdi Abdirahman is fourth in the conference in the 10,000 meters ... Dominic Johnson (who placed sixth in the decathlon at last year's NCAA's) has leaped 18-6 1/2, second-best in the conference ... The conference leader in the shot put is Chima Ugwu (from Nigeria) ... The #1 discus thrower in the Pac-10 is Doug Reynolds, while the #1 javelin thrower in the league is Esko Mikkola, a freshman from Finland ... Mambo, from Belgium, accounted for 18 points at the Pac-10's, winning the triple jump and finishing second in the long jump ... In the 200 meters, Lee has the Pac-10's second-best time of 20.90 ...
