LOS ANGELES - The No. 10-seeded UCLA women's tennis team earned a spot in the NCAA Round of 16 Saturday, defeating Pac-10 foe Washington, 4-0 in a second-round showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins (17-5) move on to face cross-town rival USC (18-3) next Thursday in Athens, Ga.

The Bruins jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point with a pair of 8-2 victories at court Nos. 2 and 3.

In singles play, 11th-ranked Daniela Bercek turned in the most impressive performance of the day, dropping just four games en route to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Dea Sumantri at the No. 1 position. UCLA then took a 3-0 lead in the match when 96th-ranked Laura Gordon posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over Stephanie Svanfeldt at court No. 6. The match was clinched by 26th-ranked Riza Zalameda, who knocked off 93rd-ranked Dinka Hadzic, 6-3, 6-4 at court No. 2. Zalameda also clinched UCLA's win over Illinois State in the first round on Friday.

When play was suspended, UCLA's Tracy Lin was up a set and tied a 5-5 in her match with Allison Rainey at court No. 5. Alex McGoodwin and Sarah Gregg were both down a set in their matches at court Nos. 3 and 4 respectively.

UCLA and Washington met during the regular season, with the Bruins taking a 5-2 victory in Seattle back on Mar. 11. UCLA and USC split both of their matches with each team winning on its home court.

UCLA advanced to the NCAA Final last season in Athens, falling to second-seeded Stanford, 4-1.
