Los Angeles - The UCLA baseball team notched its first win of the 2006 season with a 12-2 romp over visiting Fresno State in the final game of a three-game series on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium. With the win, the Bruins improve to 1-2 on the season and the Bulldogs drop to 2-4.

Junior first baseman Tim Stewart led the way for the Bruins at the plate hitting 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI. Freshman shortstop Brandon Crawford went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI, and senior second baseman Sean Smith hit 3-for-5 with three runs scored.

Freshman outfielder Blair Dunlap (2-5), and senior outfielder Chris Jensen (2-3) each finished with two hits a piece.

Freshman Tim Murphy went 1-for-3 at the plate with a single to give him at least one hit in his first three career collegiate baseball games. For the weekend, Murphy hit a team-best .600 (6-10) with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBI.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning, Stewart belted a two-run home run, his first as a Bruin, to put UCLA up 3-1.

UCLA would strike again in the second inning as freshman catcher Ryan Babineau hit a career-first solo home run, followed later by a two-out RBI single by Stewart.

The Bruins would tack on two more in the fourth inning on a two RBI single by Stewart, and two more runs in the sixth inning to go up 9-2 and put the game well out of reach.

Junior Tyson Brummett (1-0) made an impressive debut on the mound throwing 7.0 innings (five scoreless) with eight strikeouts, and allowing just two runs on five hits to earn the win.

UCLA will next face Miami for a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Stadium beginning Friday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m.
