Release:  02/02/2006

Feb. 2, 2006

Chuck Bullough, who brings five years of NFL coaching experience with the Chicago Bears, has been named linebackers coach at UCLA, head coach Karl Dorrell announced today.

At the same time, Dorrell also announced that special teams coach Brian Schneider, who also worked with the safeties last season, will switch over to offense and coach the tight ends, replacing assistant head coach Jon Embree, who has accepted a position with the Kansas City Chiefs. Schneider, who coached tight ends for six years at Colorado State, will continue to oversee the Bruin special teams.

"Chuck gained a wealth of knowledge during his five years as a coach with the Chicago Bears," said Dorrell. "In addition, he was an outstanding collegiate linebacker and also played several years in the NFL. He was highly recommended by numerous people and I think he will be a great addition to our defensive staff.

"We are sorry to see Jon and his family leave the program, but this is a great opportunity for him. I am switching Brian, over to tight ends, a position he coached very well during his six years at Colorado State. In addition, he has done a great job coordinating our special teams and he will continue in that capacity."

Bullough (BULL-ah) comes to UCLA from Western Michigan University, where he coached linebackers a year ago. WMU linebacker Ameer Ismail ranked 34th nationally with 8.0 sacks and tied for sixth in the nation with 20.0 tackles for loss. In 2004, the new Bruin coach worked as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Lake Forest College.

For the five previous seasons (1999-03), he worked on the staff of the Chicago Bears. He assisted with the special teams for the entire five years and also worked with linebackers for three years (1999-01), the defensive line for one season (2002) and defensive backs for one season (2003).

A two-time All-Big Ten selection (first team in 1991 and second in 1990) and second-team All-American linebacker at Michigan State University, set an MSU single-season record with 175 tackles. He was was a member of three bowl championship teams, including the 1987 Rose Bowl squad, and MSU won two Big Ten titles during his career.

Bullough was selected in the eighth round of the 1992 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and had a five-year career in the National Football League. He played for the Miami Dolphins (1993-95) and attended camps with the Eagles (1992) and Indianapolis Colts (1996).

He began his coaching career at his alma mater, assisting with defensive backs in 1997 and the offensive line in 1998.

A native of East Lansing, Mich., Bullough (37) received a bachelor's in physical education/exercise science from MSU in 1992. He is married to the former Nicole Sequin and the couple has a daughter, Chloe (3).

Tom Cable, who has served as UCLA's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach the past two seasons, has been hired to coach the offensive line for the Atlanta Falcons, head coach Karl Dorrell announced today.

"Tom has done a great job of coordinating our offense and coaching the line," said Dorrell. "He has been a friend for a long time and I am grateful for his contributions and wish him well with the Falcons.

"My goal is to quickly fill the offensive line position with an outstanding coach who possesses both college and NFL experience. We have a bright future on the line and we will bring in a great coach to work with the players at that position."

Dorrell said that Cable received a call from the Falcons on Wednesday evening and accepted the position early this morning and then told his position players during workouts.

"Coaching in the NFL has been a career dream," said Cable. "I am grateful to Karl for giving me the opportunity at UCLA. I have had a great time during my two years here. I know Karl will continue to have great success with the program.

"The Falcons called last night and it all happened very quickly. It's a great opportunity, but I will really miss being at UCLA."
