Art Venegas' UCLA men's track & field team is tied for No. 24 in the U. S. this week in Trackwire's first weekly outdoor rankings. The rankings are based on Trackwire's prediction of how teams will finish at the upcoming 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships, held May 29-June 1 in Baton Rouge, LA and hosted by LSU.

UCLA, winners last weekend of the Cal-NV Championships, is tied for No. 24 with Nebraska. There are two other Pac-10 teams rated in this week's Top 25 - Oregon (tied for No. 6 with Georgia) and Stanford (tied for No. 19 with Kansas and Idaho).

Rated No. 1 in the first weekly men's outdoor ranking is Tennessee, the 2001 NCAA Outdoor team champion.

On Saturday, April 13 at Drake Stadium, the Bruins will host Brigham Young and CS Northridge in a home track and field meet. This week, the BYU men are tied for No. 22 in the U. S. (with Colorado).
