Chelsea Johnson To Vault At Home Depot Meet On Saturday

UCLA sophomore Chelsea Johnson, the current NCAA Outdoor record-holder in the pole vault (15-0), will compete on Saturday (May 22) at the Home Depot Invitational in Carson. The meet, held at the track & field facility at CS Dominguez Hills, begins at noon and will be televised live on NBC for two hours (1-3 p.m.). In its first year in 2003, the meet drew a capacity crowd of nearly 11,000 fans. In 2004, meet organizers are expanding the facility to hold 12,000.

Joining Johnson, who last weekend placed second in the pole vault at the Pac-10 Championships, will be senior thrower Lara Saye, who is redshirting this outdoor season.

Several Bruin greats will also be competing on Saturday at the Home Depot Invitational - Gail Devers (100m hurdles), Amy Acuff (high jump), Suzy Powell (discus), Seilala Sua (discus), Joanna Hayes (100m hurdles/400m hurdles), Michelle Perry (100m hurdles/400m hurdles), Tracy O'Hara (pole vault) and Tiffany Burgess (800m).

In men's competition, Bruin greats include - John Godina (shot put), Jesse Strutzel (800m), Scott Slover (pole vault) and Kyle Erickson (400m hurdles).
