Fullerton, CA - The third-ranked UCLA gymnastics team was upset by Cal State Fullerton at Titan Gym Friday evening, 194.275-193.6. The Bruins were plagued by low scores on the vault and uneven bars but rallied with strong scores on floor and beam. Four-time NCAA champion Jamie Dantzscher made a successful return to competition after an ankle injury, winning the uneven bars with a 9.9 and placing third on floor with a 9.9.

The Bruins opened the meet by scoring a 48.2 on the uneven bars, highlighted by Dantzscher's winning mark of 9.9 and Aimee Walker's career-high and second-place 9.875. Cal State Fullerton, meanwhile, kept close, scoring a 48.1 on vault.

UCLA struggled on the vault in rotation two, scoring 47.475, while Cal State Fullerton scored a 48.4 on bars. Courtney Walker and Jennifer Sutton led the squad with scores of 9.65 and 9.625, respectively. Walker was competing for the first time since injuring her ankle in the season opener and placed third on the event.

Jamie Williams got the Bruins off to a good start in the third rotation, scoring a 9.7 on floor exercise in the leadoff position. Michelle Selesky also scored a 9.7, a career-high, despite accruing a one-tenth out-of-bounds deduction. Dantzscher's first floor routine of the year merited a 9.9, and Jeanette Antolin closed with a 9.95 for a team total of 48.7. Cal State Fullerton scored a 48.4 on beam to take a .525 lead heading into rotation four.

On beam, Christie Tedmon and then Williams led off with scores of 9.775. Ashley Peckett contributed a 9.825, which tied her career-high. Lori Winn nailed her routine for a career-high 9.95, and Kate Richardson closed out the beam set by competing her elite routine and scoring a 9.925. UCLA's beam total of 49.25 was not enough, however, to overtake the Titans, who scored 49.375 on floor, led by Latoya Milburn's 9.975.

UCLA will return to action on Sunday afternoon with a 2 pm showdown in Pauley Pavilion with Pac-10 rival Oregon State.
