Los Angeles - The UCLA women's rowing team hosts Minnesota this Saturday, April10, at Ballona Creek. The dual meet marks the second annual competition between the two teams, and both UCLA and Minnesota will race in Varsity Eight and Novice Eight events. Due to tidal conditions, the event is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

UCLA will race both its first and second varsity eight boats in the Varsity Eight event and its first and second novice eight boats in the Novice Eight competition. Minnesota will only travel its varsity eight and novice eight crews for the dual meet

UCLA Notes
Last year, the UCLA women's rowing team travelled to Minnesota, marking the program's first out-of-state competition. UCLA won the Novice Eight race but lost the Varsity Eight competition.

Last week, UCLA competed at the 31st Annual San Diego Crew Classic (Apr. 3-4) in Mission Bay. The UCLA varsity eight finished third in the Women's Cal Cup Grand Final after winning the preliminary heat the previous day. The UCLA second varsity eight finished third in the Women's JV Petite Final to finish ninth overall, and the Bruin novice eight finished sixth in the Women's Collegiate Novice Grand Final.

Minnesota Notes
The Minnesota women's rowing team is headed by Wendy Larson Davis, an alumna and former collegiate rower at UCLA. She was a four-year letterwinner (1979-82), earning team MVP honors in 1982. During her career, she was a member of the Bruin women's four that placed second at the Collegiate National Championships in 1981 and sixth in 1980. Davis graduated from UCLA in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Linguistics, then began her coaching career as the Bruins' women's novice coach in the 1982-83 season.

Last week, Minnesota competed at Iowa in a dual-meet competition. Minnesota defeated Iowa in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Novice Eight competitions. Iowa's only victory was in the Varsity Four event.

Minnesota has also competed against Louisville (Mar. 13) and Tennessee (Mar. 20) this season. The Minnesota varsity eight defeated Louisville but dropped the race against Tennessee by 5-seconds.
