The NCAA Championships consist of 12 teams entering their varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four crews, as well as four varsity eight at-large bids given to schools who were not selected to attend as a team. UCLA earned an at-large bid based on its 5th-place finish at the Pac-10 championships last weekend, along with its strong regular-season performance.
The Bruins enter the championships as the 15th-ranked varsity eight in the country, according to the US Rowing /Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll. The Bruins are joined by fellow Pac-10 members California, USC, Stanford and Washington in the field of 16 for the varsity eight.
