The UCLA men's golf team won The Prestige at PGA West Tuesday, successfully defending the title it won last year. UC Davis hosted the event at the Greg Norman Course at the La Quinta Resort.
The Bruins, trailing by one stroke entering the final round, posted a final round team score of 294, the best score of the tournament. The Bruins' 54-hole total of 904 (+40) beat UC Davis by nine strokes. UC Irvine and Texas Tech tied for third at 917 (+53) and Oklahoma finished fifth at 922.
Individually for the Bruins, freshman Daniel Im placed eighth at 224 (+8) after posting a final round score of 73. Senior John Poucher fired a final round 71 and tied for 13th at 229 (+13), freshman Kevin Chappell tied for 19th at 230 (+14) and sophomore Peter Campbell tied for 28th at 232 (+16). Sophomore Chris Heintz tied for 39th at 236 (+20). Sophomore Joakim Renstrom, playing as an individual, tied for 66th at 245 (+29).
Erik Hill of UC Davis won low medalist honors with a three-round total of 217 (+1).
