Sophomore Georgea Richards stands in seventh-place after day one of the Pac-10 Heptathlon Championship, presented by 76 ProClean Gasolines in Eugene OR. Richards recorded a season-best first day point total after notching a lifetime-best and two season-best marks in the first four events.
Richards started the day off with a season-best in the heptathlon 100m hurdles, running 14.07 for 968 points. In the high jump, she cleared 4-10.25 for 599 points, but followed that up with a new lifetime-best in the shot put with a throw of 35-0.25 (573 points). In the final event of the day, the 200m, Richards ran a season-best 25.00 (just .06 off her lifetime-best) to pick up 887 points to end the day with 3,027.
Competition continues on Saturday with the long jump, javelin and 800m as Richards is poised to pick up the first UCLA points towards a Pac-10 title.
