UCLA freshman Nikki Blue is one of 60 of the top collegiate players in the nation to have accepted invitations to the May 22-25 USA Basketball Women's National Team Trials.
Blue averaged 16.6 points per games last season, fourth-best figure ever by a Bruin freshman, and set a school single game scoring record for UCLA freshmen with 35 points against Washington. The 5-8 guard started all 29 games for the 18-11 Bruins and ranked fifth in the Pac-10 conference in scoring, 18th in rebounding (5.5), sixth in assists (3.55), eighth in assist / turnover ratio (1.08) and second in steals (2.69).
The USA Trials will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO and will be used to select a pair of 12-member 2003 USA Basketball Teams, including the USA World Championships for Young Women and USA Pan American Games squads. The USA Young Women's National Team, which will be comprised of athletes 21-years-old and younger, will compete in the inaugural FIBA World Championship for Young Women in Sibenik, Croatia, July 25-Aug. 3. The Pan American Games action is set to take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 2-9.
