May 11, 2002

Los Angeles - In the NCAA semifinal match between No. 1 UCLA and Loyola Marymount at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium, the Bruins jumped out to an early lead en route to the 11-2 victory. With the victory, UCLA advances to the Championship game, where they will face No. 2 Stanford, who defeated Michigan 13-3 to advance to the finals.

True freshman Amber Stachowski kicked things off for the Bruins, netting the first goal of the game at the 6:32 mark. Senior Kelly Heuchan notched two of her game leading three goals in the first quarter. And, junior Ashley Stachowski also contributed a goal, pushing the Bruins ahead 4-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Bruin defense allowed just one shot on goal by LMU in that quarter, which was saved by junior Jaime Hipp. In the second quarter, senior Jenny Lamb and sophomore Natalie Golda each netted a goal to put the Bruins up 6-0 at half time.

In the third quarter, Thalia Munro, Heuchan and the Stachowskis each netted a goal. Jamie Kroeze put LMU on the board, netting a goal with 5:08 to go in the quarter. LMU's Julia Wald also netted a goal in the third. Redshirt freshman Kristyn Pulver netted UCLA's only goal of the fourth quarter. Also in the fourth, senior Eleanor Murphy had a huge field save on Wald before UCLA clinched the victory. Hipp ended the day with eight saves, while her LMU counterpart, Devon Courtney, had seven.
