UCLA Women's Track And Field Signs Seven

LOS ANGELES - Here are bios of the seven incoming UCLA women's track and field recruits.

Jessica Cosby, Grover Cleveland HS, Reseda - At the U. S. Junior meet held June 23-24 in Denton, TX, Cosby placed second in the shot put, with a personal best 50-3 1/2. The two-time LA City champion in the shot put, Cosby in 2000 has placed second in the shot put at the CA State, Golden West Invitational and U. S. Junior meets.

Valerie Flores, San Pedro, CA HS - Flores is a four-time (1999-2000) LA City champion in the 1600m and and 3200m. Her personal bests are 4:59 and 10:48. In cross country last fall, she was a FootLocker national qualifier (19th place) and was a member of the Western Team champions at FootLocker.

Nicole Gaskins, Diamond Bar, CA HS - She placed third in the 2000 CA State meet in the 400m (54.51). She has run personal bests of 24.37 (200m) and 54.41 (400m).

Sheena Johnson, Garfield HS, Dale City, VA - Johnson is regarded as the nation's top prep female hurdler/jumper. At the 2000 U. S. Junior Meet, she won the 400m hurdles for the second time in her career, with a personal best mark of 56.82 (U. S. Olympic Trials qualifier, No. 6 all-time U. S. Junior). At this spring's Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Johnson won the 400m hurdles for the third consecutive season, the first time in Penn prep history an athlete has won an individual event three straight years. She was named the Outstanding Female HS Athlete of the Meet. For the last two prep indoor seasons, she's been named by T & F News as the Outstanding Female HS Indoor Track and Field performer in the U. S. Her top jump marks are 20-0 (long jump) and 41-7 (triple jump).

Adia McKinnon, Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, IL - At the National Scholastic meet June 17 in Raleigh, NC, McKinnon won the 400m in a time of 53.70. She has run a 23.89 (200) and her personal best in the 400m is 52.91. She's from the same high school as incoming freshman UCLA men's basketball recruit T. J. Cummings.

Hasani Roseby, Monterey, CA HS - At the Golden West Invitational in Sacramento on June 10, Roseby won the 100m, 200m and 100m hurdle championships. At the recently completed CA State Meet, she won the 100m and placed second in the 100m hurdles. Her season bests are 11.74 (100m) and 24.03 (200m). As a junior in 1999, her personal best of 11.42 in the 100m was No. 2 on the U. S. prep chart and her 23.52 in the 200m was No. 8. She has also run a personal best 13.72 in the 100m hurdles.

Lana Saye, Silverado HS, Henderson, NV - At the U. S. Junior Meet in Denton, Saye placed third in the discus (166-9, personal best). She's the two-time Nevada State champion in the shot put/discus.
